Aaron Williams Band The Everwinding Road
Columbia Connection: Aaron Williams (lead vocals, guitars) earned a B.A. in sound engineering in 2005; Zachary LaMotte (keys) earned a B.A. in music business management in 2003. The sound: Modern rock The Word: Taking cues from ’90s bands like Blues Traveler, Black Crows, and early Dave Matthews Band, Aaron Williams Band relies on much of what made these bands so successful: simplicity, rock-infused dynamics, and a flare for Phish-like jam. Yet The Everwinding Road is less a generic rock album and more a modern rock/western hybrid (think less “hee-yaw” and more Brad Paisley), with its uplifting lyrics, clean sound, and occasional southern twang. Poppy and punchy, Williams was made for modern rock radio. |

The Wooz was my first band and we formed when I was only a Junior in in High School. We recorded our first EP and held two release shows. We handed out 50 copies of five songs dubbed onto cassette tapes. One of those shows was held at the Lombard Park District and the Daily Herald showed up to cover the event. There wasn't social media or smart phones to aid in promoting back then, just the old fashioned way- with fliers, posters, and word of mouth. Through the grapevine the Herald showed up to provide my first quote in any media outlet and gave The Wooz some great momentum to kickstart a five year span. "The main thing is to have fun and make good music." Not too bad for first words in the media.
